A Tesla Cybertruck Owner Says His Kids Are Getting Picked On at School Because He Drives a Cybertruck – Adds, “I Still Love the Truck, but I’ve Decided to Sell It”

A Cybertruck owner claims that driving the truck has placed a significant burden on his family. He describes the personal attacks and negative treatment his little children endure, noting that they have started to experience bullying at school.

A Cybertruck owner from New York City shares that his young children are facing a lot of challenges simply because he drives a Cybertruck.

He adds he’s been able to brush off the negativity directed at him; however, the effect it’s having on his children means he can no longer enjoy the truck.

The Cybertruck owner, who goes by the username "Cyberdoc18," mentions that he regularly commutes from New Jersey to New York City for work. He often encounters hostility from others, with drivers frequently gesturing offensively, even with his young children present in the car.

This has made owning a Cybertruck challenging. However, the last straw came when his children started getting picked on at school because their dad drives a Cybertruck.

This is definitely not ideal, and the frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.

He writes…

“I'm thinking of Selling My Cybertruck – Need Some Advice

Hey everyone,

I’ve been a happy Cybertruck owner since late August, and let me tell you—when I first got it, I absolutely loved it. Every time I got behind the wheel, it put a smile on my face. The performance, the design, the whole experience—it really lived up to the hype for me.

But lately, I’m struggling.

I commute into New York City from New Jersey for work, and the hate this truck gets here is honestly starting to wear me down.

It’s not just dirty looks—I’ve had random people flip me off, walk up to my truck shouting at me, and just give off a ton of hostility.

Normally, I’d brush it off, but my young kids are often in the car with me. Recently, they’ve started getting picked on at school because of it, and that’s where it crossed the line for me.

I never thought I’d say this, but I’m seriously considering selling it. I still love the truck, but I don’t think I can enjoy it anymore under these circumstances.

Has anyone gone through something similar? Do you know if Tesla would buy back the truck? Mine’s a Cyberbeast with around 4,000 miles on it. I realize I’ll probably take a loss, but at this point, I’m looking for peace of mind.

Any advice or insight would mean a lot. Thanks in advance.”

It's certainly concerning for any parent to see their kids being bullied over the type of vehicle they drive.

This is definitely concerning, and fellow Cybertruck owners agreed that what’s happening to Cyberdoc18’s children is horrible.

A fellow Cybertruck owner, John, writes…

"That's horrible that your experience has been so bad. I was really worried for a few months about the safety of the truck when the political situation worsened, but it seems to have calmed down significantly. I can imagine that NYC/NJ is still pretty bad… I’ve only gotten one finger this month, so that’s my gauge.

I personally wouldn’t sell it for that reason, but if it’s affecting your daily life, it’s worth considering.

However, I don’t think Tesla would buy it back for this reason. Typically, those buybacks are reserved for repeated mechanical issues or severe cosmetic defects that can’t be repaired (as opposed to a lemon designation).

I hope the slander dies down for you because it is an absolute beauty of a machine and a pretty efficient truck.

Good luck with your choice.”

A second Cybertruck owner from Orange County, California, seconds this sentiment, writing…

“Sorry to hear about your kids getting picked on. As adults, it's easy to dismiss the negativity and ignore the hate, but the kids...

My advice, coming from someone without kids and in California (we're practically brothers), is to wait because the idiots will find something new and shiny to hate on sooner than you think.

The only thing that won't change with time is the love for your wonderful truck!”

A third Cybertruck owner states that he has also faced negativity due to his truck; however, he recommends changing jobs and relocating rather than selling the Cybertruck.

He writes…

“Selling it would give the bullies and crazies validation, and further reason to bully and target others. I would strongly consider moving for your family's sake to a location where you don't feel the need to even think about why your kids are being bullied.

I've been all over the world, and NYC is the most disgusting, wretched place I've had the displeasure of visiting. And I've spent time in the Horn of Africa.

So I think the main problem here is where your family is located. Your kids know you love the truck. Don't send them the message that 'bullying pays off' by selling.”

Overall, looking at the comments, most Cybertruck owners seem convinced that Cyberdoc18 should not sell his truck despite his children getting picked on.

The bloke knows EVs (not verified)    June 7, 2025 - 9:33AM

Very few owners of CT's will be able to afford to keep them once the warranty expires, so why's this bloke worried about his kids? Just dump the truck and get a real vehicle. What's so difficult about that, right?
