The Chrysler minivan is one of the most popular family haulers ever built. Chrysler invented the minivan segment and continues to constantly reinvent its creation. That is why this huge recall is so surprising. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced today that Chrysler is recalling more than 250,000 2022-2025 Chrysler Pacifica and Chrysler Voyager minivans. The recall involves 209,668 Chrysler Pacificas and 40,983 Chrysler Voyagers.
What is Causing the Recall
Chrysler has determined that some of the side curtain airbags can develop a leak at the seam. The leak could allow the airbag to lose pressure during a crash. There is a risk that a faulty side curtain airbag could allow a passenger to be ejected during a severe crash. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards require that side curtain airbags hold passengers’ heads in place during certain types of crashes.
According to the NHTSA Safety Recall Report, Canadian Transportation workers discovered the problem during their tests. They notified Chrysler who reviewed the tests and realized that there was a significant issue. Apparently, no injuries have been attributed to the defective airbags.
How Chrysler Will Correct the Airbag Problem
According to NHTSA, FCA US, Chrysler's parent company in the U.S. will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles to replace one or both side curtain airbags as needed.
Owners will be notified by mail about the issue from Jun 30, 2025, to Jul 03, 2025. The owners will be notified again at a later date once Chrysler has the parts to replace the defective airbags. The NHTSA number for the recall is 25V302. Chrysler has three numbers for the recall depending on which airbag is found to be defective: 06C, 54C, 55C.
